The history of club training goes back thousands of years, they were an ancient tool for strength and conditioning back in the days.
The persian warriors trained with clubs to strengthen the shoulders so when they went into battle with say a sword they were trained with a heavier club so they could cut through armor easier. They got more powerful strikes and they did more damage when they went into battle.
Then it was the Indians after the persians, who populised club training around the 15th- 16th century.
The wrestlers in Northern India called the pelswini wrestlers trained with clubs and that’s when they really took off.
Indian club training became part of their strength and conditioning for the wrestling because it’s so good for circular shoulder strength.
Then lastly, the British and American soldiers used to train with Indian clubs as part of their PTI, the soldiers would use them as part of their training when they went into the army.
In recent times they’ve become popular in the west and it was the wrestlers and the mma guys that really got into heavy club training because it’s so good for circular shoulder strength, so good for their combat training that they’ve really became popular in recent years.
